Young Samurai the Way of the Warrior:
In the 17th century, Jack Fletcher is stranded on a bay when his ship is ambushed by ninja pirates led by the notorious ninja Dragon Eye, everyone on the ship excluding himself is killed, including his father. During the attack the samurai lord Masamoto Takeshi, the best swordsman in the land aids Jack and fends of the other ninja. Jack is taken in by Masamoto, whose son was also killed by the ninja Dragon Eye. Jack learns the Japanese language and customs, and is enrolled by Masamoto into his samurai school, where he learns ‘the Way of the Warrior’. But dragon eye has set his set his eye on jacks fathers logbook, and will do anything to get it. In the book there is lots of sword fighting, injuries and death and the loss of a parental figure, although none of it is described in immense detail.
Critique:
The reader learns history whilst having fun so i recommend this to kids 10 - 13 because of the education but the goriness but also the entertainment. Readers also learn the Japanese culture e.g their food, events of celebration and weapons.
