Kane chronicles The Red Pyramid
Disclaimer: i do not reveal all details of the book in an attempt to not spoil it:
Everything goes wrong when 14-year old Carter, his father Julian who is an Egyptologist and his 12 -year old sister Sadie visit the British museum to investigate the Rosetta Stone privately. Carter and Sadie are told to stay away from the Rosetta room, it turns out that their Dad actually doesn’t want to investigate the stone, in-fact he blows it up and summons an unearthly being called Set, Set blasts the museum apart and an Egyptian coffin rises up to trap Julian. Julian becomes a host for another god in the coffin, he becomes the host for Osiris the god of the underworld and he goes through the floor and into the underworld. He leaves the kids alone to deal with the God Set but luckily they escape and manage to get to their grandparents. The police investigate but that’s when Uncle Amos who the kids have never heard of before step in and brings the kids to his magical mansion where they go on to find out that Sadies cat is actually a goddess. The kids and the goddess go on to have some adventures throughout the book and at the end fight the god Set in his Red Pyramid.
Critique:
The book is a version of Percy Jackson as is Magnus Chase with the Norse Gods, the Kane chronicles are like Percy Jackson but with the Egyptian Gods. The same type of decent writing, no swearing but not exactly Lord of the Rings. Although the book teaches you a lot a bout the Egyptian Gods the writing is not that edifying. If you are looking for entertainment go to this book, if you are looking for a book with good wording this is not the book. I recommend this book to 7-9 year olds, because of the simple language, education on culture and the entertainment.
