Summoner Book 1: The Novice

The Plot Summary:

Ffteen year-old Fletcher works in a market with his adopted father, making weapons and selling them to collectors and soldiers. One day an army veteran of the Orc Wars - a war against a variety of monsters, trying to take over the humans’ land - starts selling older more advanced weapons and on in departure leaves behind a book which has instructions to summon a demon. Fletcher reads it and finds out that only humans of the nobility have a guarantee to be able to summon a demon, commoners on the other hand have a very small chance to be able to summon. Fletcher is skeptical that it will work as he is a commoner, but he still wants to try it out. So he follows the instructions and goes to a graveyard for the ritual to commence and strangely, a demon appears, but before Fletcher can do anything A boy called Didric enters the graveyard with a group of hired henchmen and beats up fletcher threatening to kill him and end his fathers career. But before Didric can fulfill his threats the demon summoned by Fletcher attacks Didric and his guards and helps Fletcher escape. Fletcher gives his goodbyes to his Father and starts of towards the city. In the city he finds more trouble but also is found by a man named Arcturus who is a teacher at the Vocans Academy, an academy for wizards and demon wielders. Fletcher joins the school as a student and learns the art of demon wielding.

Recommendations:

In ‘The Novice’ there is bullying but the violence is not described in graphic detail. There is major conflict between the orcs and the humans but the main thing is the bullying in the academy. This may cause stress to any sensitive readers so i advise that you make sure the person reading the book has not had any difficulties with parents e.g divorce or loss of a parent, before letting them read the book. Also strong language only goes to the extent of ‘damn’ so i would recommend this to 9+.
